La Espuma De Mi Suenos by Barry Stepe

La Espuma De Mi Suenos

The image of you splashes onto the shore

in a spray of hot sea foam,

la espuma de mi suenos,

close enough to graze the essence,

the living marrow

of all the joy

that lives inside me.

Your cloudless eyes,

two suns burning in fiery concentration

laugh brilliantly

in splintered darts of circular light.

With the steady slur of the surf,

hot hands gently pull me out to sea,

to taste the roses of the sun

embedded in the flavors

of foreign lands.

I search for you

through the skin of the transparent water

as patiently as the landscape

longs for a horizon

to find its peace.

Love invades this island with a powerful, sensual breeze

adding delightful colors to our painted hearts

and blanketing us

in sheets of unfolding dreams.

Dreams that whisper hints of land

when we are far at sea,

dreams that cup the hands,

that cover the lips,

that tastes like steam

rising towards our souls

and putting them at ease.

Love that puts the day to rest

and marks it with delicate tranquility

that is the night.

Mouth of the Red Waters By Barry Stepe

Mouth of the Red Waters

I want to get lost forever
in your tangle of jungle hair
black as the Cuban night,
soft as the clouds
that bring cool rain
to this wandering island.

Watching you glide by
carried by crisp, oceanic breezes,
the rustling of coconut leaves
flirt with your gaze
and touch with slippery, soft fingers.
Past the stark, white doorways
where the beat of merengue
tickles your ears
with sensual pulsations
and tempts your papaya red lips
to bloom into
an incredibly contagious smile.

To the coast,
where the sea motions you forward
with foamy white kisses
to a liquefied passionate embrace.

I will stay with you
until the sunset dips itself
into the mouth of the red waters
and I can no longer see your features,
your scent washed away, foreign.

Land of Lakes and Volcanoes by Barry Stepe

You came swirling through the skies
from the land of lakes and volcanoes
and flew into my vision quickly,
with waves of kisses overlapping kisses
until the world knew no other sound
than the peace that speaks
so distinctly
when we’re alone.

Your image holds my fascination
that departs like the ocean
back into itself
but never losing its grip
of the sand cascading over the shore.

We have become as fluid as droplets
of river water
melting and dancing
their way into the sea.

We make the spark of touching
electrifying everlasting,
we bronze it
in permanence.
